Peter okoye of Psquare finally speaks out
For many Nigerians who grew up listening to P-Square, the biggest shock is the involvement of money in the disagreement between this brothers.
Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P has opened up about the bitter issues that have surrounded the Okoye family and the collapse of P-Square.
In a series of posts and videos, Peter gave his own account of what he says happened behind the scenes while P-Square was at the height of its career.
According to Peter, the problem was never simply about his wife, Lola, or any other woman, as some people have suggested. He insists that the disagreement had been building for years and was mainly about trust, money, management and the way the family’s music business was being handled.
Peter alleged that he discovered financial issues involving the group after becoming suspicious about the money coming into the P-Square business. He claimed that he was not fully aware of how much the group was making or how some of the money was being handled.
He also spoke about his elder brother and former manager, Jude Okoye, accusing him of controlling important aspects of the group’s finances and business dealings.
Peter’s account suggests that he believed the three brothers were supposed to benefit fairly from the success they created together, but that things did not always work that way behind closed doors. Peter’s Parts 1 to 8 have now given the public a closer look at his version of what happened, but with the dispute still tied to ongoing legal proceedings, the full story is yet to be settled.
The situation eventually reached the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), with Jude facing allegations relating to the management of funds connected to the P-Square business. Jude has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
However, the matter has become more complicated as some of Peter’s claims have been challenged during court proceedings. For example, Peter admitted in court that he was a co-signatory to a Northside Entertainment account, despite previously saying Jude was the sole signatory.
