If you have been on Nigerian social media over the past few days, there is a good chance you have seen people talking about Lagos Life. From people showing off their virtual money to others complaining about their virtual jobs, rent and lifestyle, the Lagos Life game has suddenly become one of the biggest talking points among young Nigerians online.

thing is that the game is basically asking a very Nigerian question:
What if you had to live Lagos life… but inside a game?

What Is Lagos Life Game?Lagos Life is a Nigerian-made life simulation browser game that allows players to create virtual characters and experience a digital version of Lagos. The game lets players work, earn virtual money, buy or rent property, socialise with other players and explore locations inspired by Nigerian life.Unlike many popular games that require users to download a large application, Lagos Life can be played directly through a web browser on a phone or computer. That has helped make it very easy for Nigerians to try the game.Lagos Life Has Gone Viral in NigeriaThe growth of the game has been extremely fast.Reports published this week say Lagos Life crossed one million players within days of its launch. Developer reported that the game’s dashboard had passed the one-million-player mark only four days after launch.

The “Nepo” and “Lapo” LifeOne of the things that makes Lagos Life funny is the way it plays with Nigerian expressions.Players can find themselves starting in different financial circumstances, including “Nepo” and “Lapo.”The terms are a playful reference to two very different Nigerian realities: having connections and financial advantages on one side, and struggling financially and relying on microfinance on the other.
